Coaching yesterday was almost a disaster. Luckily I grabbed hold of the situation and made sure everything went well and safe. The tide yesterday reached to 3.2 metres and the waves were freaking strong. 78 sec 3 students from Loyang Sec divided into 2 groups and had a briefing by me and my instructors. We divided further into 3 sub groups for more detailed orientation to kayaking. Once they were done with the introduction and basics of paddling, we did a water confidence test before letting them launch off by themselves and form a raft somewhere near the PUB-T yellow buoy.
But to my amazement, everyone was going everywhere! All the basics we instructors taught them were forgotten. I paddled up to get the better students to form a raft while I attend to the "lost sheeps". All this happened while my instructors Jon and Ah Guan were busy helping the last 2 kayaks to embark from the shore. Hell broke loose, and one by one the lost sheeps start to capsize! I had to rescue one at a time as I was the only instructor out at sea. By the time I rescued the 'lost and capsized sheeps'(LOLs), the raft that i instructed began to drift too close to the mangrove swamp and I shouted as loud as I could for them to break raft and paddle up to their original position again.
Finally Ah Guan and Jon went up to assist me and get all of them to raft up again at the yellow buoy. The students did a freaking cool kayak wave before we told them to head back to shore. Luck wasnt by our side, on the way back a lot of kayaks capsized and to make things worse,a big ship sailed past us and made HUGE WAVES to make rescuing a very difficult task for us instructors. I would also like to credit a couple of students, Arifah and her partner(forgot his name uh),for assisting me in rescuing their friends who capsized. As it was a leadership camp for them and kayaking is one of the itinery,if there wld be any leadership role to be taken up in future, she n her partner deserves it. Their help was prompt and given without any complaints. Kudos to the both of u aite.
After all the kayaking, we let the students send all their kayaks and paddles back to the store area for washing before carrying them back into the store. Had a debrief with the school stuff and my colleague before getting our pay after washing up and dismiss ourselves. Then I went to Harbourfront to meet Bruce and Siswand and accompanied them to Mt Faber Bistro as Bruce needs to do a food review for his school project. He ate his pasta while Siswand and I had ice cream. Took some pics there and went down to Seah Im food court opposite H.bourfront Ctre to have dinner. We chatted a while n went home by train. I swear I was so shagged ytd,I slept on the train la!
Right now I just came back from my soccer training and waiting for 3pm to meet my gang. What event this time?
